ENVIRONMENTAL

Seabed Sampling

All dredging projects in Trinidad and Tobago require a CEC (Certificate of Environmental Clearance) granted by the EMA (Environmental Management Authority).

A key component in obtaining this approval for dredging is the testing and analysis of the proposed dredge material for TPH, Total Metals and TCLP of various organic and inorganic compounds.

Channel Siltation

A primary asset of any port is its shipping channel and turning basin. Over time siltation occurs and the channel, like all other assets, requires maintenance in this case by dredging.

Dredging is usually a budgeted cost and needs to be planned in advance. By periodically surveying the channel the rate of siltation can be monitored which will allow for the efficient use of the port's resources.

Tidal Measurements

Most marine operations require tidal movements to be monitored so that changes in tide can be compensated.

Usually tide predictions are used to compensate for the changes in tide. However, these predictions vary from the actual tide and more accurate marine operations require that the real tide be used. This can be achieved using a tide board or installing an electronic tide gauge.

Logged tidal data can be post-processed to perform analysis and establish the variations from predictions.
